Highlands Foundation

Who We Are

When the Highlands Foundation was founded in 2006 it was part of Consolidated Health Systems, a not-for-profit health care system including medical clinics, pharmacies and Highlands Regional Medical Center.  When CHS was sold to Appalachian Healthcare System in 2019. Highlands Foundation became a stand-alone company.

Our participation and gift giving comes from the earnings from the foundation endowment and the generous donations from individuals and companies across the region.

Our history

Since its inception in 2006 Highlands Foundation has distributed more than $5,000,000 in our Eastern Kentucky service area through grants and donations to schools, healthcare facilities, food pantries, endowed scholarships, homeless shelters, animal shelters, and other non-profit organizations that fulfill the mission of the foundation.  You will find more information about our past donations on our who we support   page

Our Vision

We work to better the lives of our community by supporting the goals of other Charitable and Healthcare Organizations in the Eastern Kentucky service area.

Your generosity in the past has helped us achieve this vision. We have more work to do, so any amount you would like to donate will be appreciated and put to good use.

One Hundred percent of your gifts will be distributed in our community!

Our Mission

TO SUPPORT OTHER CHARITABLE TAX-EXEMPT, GOVERNMENTAL OR EDUCATIONAL ENTITIES WITHIN EASTERN KENTUCKY FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE PROMOTION OF HEALTH, ESTABLISHING PROGRAMS OF COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION AND INVOLVEMENT, AND DEVELOPMENT OF OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES THAT BENEFIT THE LIVES OF THOSE IN NEED BY DONATING TO OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN THE EASTERN KENTUCKY AREA.

Your contribution will help those less fortunate this Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, our thoughts turn to gratitude and the importance of giving back to our communities.

The Highlands Foundation is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to alleviating hunger in eastern Kentucky. Our mission is to support nine food banks in our region, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry.

One in eight people in Kentucky is unsure where their next meal will come from. This alarming reality reflects the dire need for support, especially in the eastern part of our state. Hunger is an issue that transcends age, gender, and ethnicity, and it is affecting our friends, neighbors, and even children who should be focusing on their education and dreams rather than the growling of their empty stomachs.

From now until December 15, 2023, all donations made to the Highlands Foundation for the Food Banks listed below will be 100% matched with  funds from the foundation itself. This means that your contribution will go twice as far in providing meals and support to those in need.

Here are some examples of how your contribution can help:

  • A donation of $25 can provide a week’s worth of groceries for a family in need.
  • A contribution of $100 can supply a local food bank with essential non-perishable items.

Your kindness can help us create a brighter and more hopeful holiday season for families across eastern Kentucky.

Together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes to bed hungry this holiday season.
